I believe it is generally agreed that you only remember
those dreams that you were having immediately before you
woke up. Whether some dreams actually wake you up is a
different matter, although I suspect it happens rarely.
So.
MaxCo. is pleased to announce the development of its
Dream
Scratcher, to ensure that you never awake with the
memory of a nightmare haunting you.
The Dream Scratcher consists of a series of monitors which
detect rapid eye movement, pulse, respiration,
perspiration, overall movement and sound.
Should the Dream Scratcher detect that you are having a
troubling dream, it will defer any imminent alarm-clock
ringing and, if necessary, dispense the smallest whiff of
anaesthesia to induce you to keep sleeping for a few
minutes more. By the time you actually wake up, the
nightmare will have dissolved into the mist of forgetment.
For a merely large additional sum, the Dream Scratcher
can be equipped with a plethysmograph, and can wake you
with a gentle chime if it detects that you have reached the
end of a particularly pleasant dream that you'd want to
remember.

no need, I remember all my dreams and bore people endlessly with the details... |

//I remember all my dreams// Well, you certainly
remember the ones that you remember. But are
you sure you remember the ones you don't
remember? I would contend that you don't. |

Who's to say they weren't real ? Dreams are just unverified reality. |

Dreams are real neurological activity, just as
Treasure Island is a real book. |

Dream Stretcher..... once the dream is detected in progress, a mallet comes down on your head, ensuring that it lasts twice as long. |

//you certainly remember the ones that you remember// Interesting fact: you can train yourself to remember dreams. I did it once and got up to remembering around 20 dreams a night. Then I realized what an epic waste of time that was so I stopped. |

A lot of my nightmares are caused by some physical pain to my body. For example, if my arm is twisted painfully I will have a nightmare that a monster is holding me by the arm, and wake up. Staying asleep in that case would be unhealthy. |
