Tropical storms, typhoons, hurricanes and the like are assigned names
by forecasters.
Everyone knows what "Hurricane Katrina" or "Hurricane Andrew"
refers to.
So, extend the system to all incidents and disasters, man-made and
natural.
"The 2011 Japanese Earthquake" becomes "Earthquake
Rosemary".
The Costa Concordia sinking would be called "Incident David".
Floods, fires, rail and plane crashes- all would be allocated media-
friendly tags.
The system could be run by nominet and automatically allocate a web
domain.

So this becomes "Idea Rupert"? |
I think a good name for a large earthquake would be "The
Penultimate Earthquake". Keep people edgy. |
When a proper name is already involved in the disaster --like
"Concordia"-- it might make more sense to refer to that name in your
relevant wording, such as "Incident Concordia". Even if the proper
name has been used in a prior event, it can still work if we just add
numbers, like "Incident Three Concordia". |
Political parties have already done this, as in "The
Tory Party", "The Labour Party" etc. |
(+)Could wars and other minor conflicts also be named, or
numbered? With the revision of history going on it's hard to
remember who did what to whom. |
It logically follows that, if we are going to give disasters people's names, that we should give people the names of disasters. So, you might name your newborn child "Tsunami" or "Oh my God! Look out! It's a Tornado!" |
I agree with [hippo] and add that naming children after
things like cleaning supplies might be the next big hit, like
Brillo, Mop'NGlo, or Mötsenböckers- but then again, is this a
naming scheme? |
There's a fine line between naming and advertising. |
Can I sell the rights to insert product placements in the names of my ideas here? |

$150k to name my firstborn "Sarah* Jane* Amazon.com Bs0" |

*TBC with relevant secondary party. |

Well, the reality of you actually reproducing would certainly
constitute a disaster of global proportions
Fortunately, it's in the realms of fantasy, or at least wishful
thinking (on your part). |
Let's be totally clear on this; your particular, specific (and,
thankfully, entirely unique) type of biological "distinctiveness"
(a.k.a. 'weirdness') is something that the Collective does NOT
want to Assimilate. No
way, never. |

We'd rather have some of [MB]'s more distant relatives, who are
so inbred that their offspring are, for all practical purposes,
clones. |
