A little earpiece, hardly more than an unobtrusive earring, wirelessly connected to a cell-phone sized unit on your belt. As the date goes on, touch the earpiece to get suggested smalltalk/romantic innuendo/excuses to your heart's desire, selected by operators standing by.

Your feelings about the date can be relayed to the operators by secret signals - tap your wrist for romantic interest, tap your leg for a need to get away, and so on. The belt unit monitors heart rate, blood pressure, etc.

A more generalized version. [centauri, May 09 2000, last modified Oct 04 2004]

If you've managed to get a date then you probably don't need any more help. It's trying to get the date in the first place that's difficult. What's really needed is a Groundhog Day Effect Generator so you can just keep trying until you get it right.

Done on Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Sabrina took over Hilda, controlling her voice and actions, and made her speak to get her to chat up a teacher to make him nicer to her. But Sabrina's mate came along, and started talking to her. With hilarious consequences, natch. I'm really really sorry I know that.

Also almost baked on the BBC TV show "Would Like To Meet", where they watch a dinner date and after the starter, the dater goes into the toilet where he/she gets advice from Lowri Turner and a team of experts. I kid you not.
