These shopping carts (trolleys to you Brits) convert to low wheeled stretchers which are pulled along by some smallish remote-controlled tank-like device, which flashes an emergency beacon to attract attention in a recently-nuked city, with some simple instructions as to how to operate it.

Problems to overcome would be the wheel caster size in comparison to the likely state of the terrain.

       Does that diagram involve cutting out the front of one cart (or it being hinged, which they usually aren't, though the backs are) and laying a bed inside?
