Flip flops. So fashionable and cheap! But what if you like
some arch support with your footwear but still want to
wear flip flops. Yes, you may buy flip flops with molded
arch supports. But whose arch is that? Not your arch.
Some ideal Platonic form of arch. If you had arches like
that
you wouldn't need arch supports. Maybe eventually
walking would squash those supports to fit, if you live that
long.
Life is short, and BUNGCO wants your flip-flops to fit your

The 3d printer uses LASERS to measure and then prints out
the inverse of your neglected and possibly mutant arch

How about making the arch from a silicone bag filled
with a plastic that melts at (say) 42°C? Just pop
them in a warm oven, then put them on and wait a
few minutes for the plastic to set? |

the beach sand. Plus there is no 3d printer. |

Nice idea.... I'm currently making an edition of my hand with a particular finger pointing gesture (not the rude one) I used alginate to make the mould. It's more or less instant, but not durable. There must be a similar material but more resiliant? |

You could always use PDMS (silicone monomer), with
a little capsule of catalyst that you break to start the
polymerisation. |

Being pretty flat-footed I like the custom fit new shoe angle. I've taken to wearing the cheapest shoes they make just because they're made with no arch support. (+) never tried flip flops though |

I am sure feet deform under load to greater or lesser extent. What is a more suitable 3d image of the foot - deformed by weight applied from above or unloaded? What is the ideal configuration for a weight bearing foot?
I could imagine a certain amount of deformation is ideal, but some people might experience more because of obesity / overloading, lax ligaments or the like. |
