Observational evidence leads to the conclusion that price pressures have adversely affected clothing design, especially for younger women. This has resulted in the production of garments which are manifestly not fit for purpose, the economy on fabric meaning that there is frequently a significant and highly visible gap between the clothing of the upper body and the clothing of the lower body.

BorgCo now offer a selection of suitably styled cummerbunds, designed specifically for those afflicted by this problem, in the hope that the endless complaints that "It's cold" when it clearly isn't will stop.

Yes. You seem to have unerringly homed in on the essential point of the design.

       SP. fixed.

I don't know how I feel about this. In general, I'm in favor of less body coverage for younger women. However, I am also put off by "endless complaints that 'it's cold.' " Might I suggest instead a cummerbund to fit securely over the offending young woman's mouth?

(Hmm. 'danielo'.  Possible female account? 'There's always room for danielo?' (Mustardface always on the lookout for 'true' femininity in the Halfbakery text which he believes to be readable between the lines.) Nah.  Annotation.  Definitely male.  (Mustardface looks at danielo's idea list.)  Male. Interesting idea titles.  (Misses Robinism.)) danielo, I couldn't access www.danielo.org.  Is it up? (really).

This idea is also a nice fashion alternative to the classic dirndl dress for the teen girl or young woman who finds herself embarassingly "with child" and wishes to temporarily disguise the condition or forestall peer commentary another month or two.

Which brings up the matter of the "bump band".
nineteenthly, May 04 2010

It might be too ironic to consider renaming that specific product the "cummer-bump-band".

nah, remember half-shirts in the '80's?
when I was young and thin, I always showed middriff but maybe now that I'm old and fat, it would nice to hold it all in!

@Mustardface - Stay on topic, m'dear. The .org is up, yes.

The folds of the cummerbund would also serve as a storage place for things, perhaps certain types of crunchy salad ingredients - it could be called the "cucummerbund".
