If a car crashes or breaks down and is stranded at the
roadside, other drivers will look and slow down, often
causing more accidents. This is just irritating and silly - it's
like these people have never seen a Saab with a flat tyre
before. The obvious solution is to make stranded cars such a
commonplace occurrence that no one would ever bother
looking at one. Thus, this idea is to line the sides of major
roads with crashed or broken cars so that when someone
actually does have to stop at the roadside they will be hardly
noticeable.

Concept Addendum: Crashed cars could be left where
they crashed, or just off the road nearby. Then their
frequency would indicate how dangerous this portion
of the road was, like the crosses beside the road that
show where people died, indirectly showing how
deadly a road section is. |

Taking this idea to it's logical conclusion, one might propose that victims of fatal accidents be left where they fell. |

Bizarrely, this is baked. If you travel the roads between any two cities in India, you will find the roadside littered at regular(ish) intervals with the wreckage of crashed & burnt out lorries. After a while you get used to the sight. |

our industrious European neighbors to the south in
Greece have come up with a similar albeit less ugly
concept. When driving there I am always very careful on
a 3 or more Shrine Corner. Those neat little white mini
churches are an excellent guide to the potentially
treacherous nature of the next mountain bend. |
