Two players sit in a canoe, facing
opposite
directions. Each gets a paddle of their
choice. Between them, a chessboard is
attached to the boat at lap level. It is
magnetic, to prevent piece scattering.
The
canoe is put in a pool, equidistant from
two lines.
A player wins by either
crossing the line
they face towards or by winning the
chess
game. Paddling is not allowed when it is
your move.
Two lines are also drawn to the sides of
the canoe. If the canoe crosses either of
them, the person currently paddling
loses.
"Touching the pool wall" can be
substituted for "crossing the line" if the
game is not part of a tournament and so
the regulations need not be followed
strictly.
To prevent the player better at
memorizing from winning, Fisher's
Random Chess can be played instead of
regular chess.
