How about creating a mainstream awards show singling out the most brazen of the idea thiefs who shamelessly "create" TV shows based on preexisting successfully ones. The winner would receive a golden statue of a copy machine.

I know... most entertainment is based on what came before it, but there is a new breed of concept swiping that goes so far as to even mimic graphics, music. host personalities and logos. Most of the latest crop are based on the Junk Yard Wars/Trading Spaces theme.

Since the networks love their crappy shows so much, what venue do you think would carry this show?
polartomato, Jun 30 2002

It could be a great vhicle for Comedy Central. They could also get laughs trashing their own concept stealing.

       Rant.

I dunno. If it were done <sudden coughing fit> purely for comedic purposes, then I'd watch it.

I bet the networks would steal this idea, too ....

.... yeah, would they give the award to themselves?
FarmerJohn, Jul 01 2002

As long as it's not presented by Angus Deayton.

I also find it ironic that 'Junkyard Wars' was originally a rip-off of the great Channel 4 show 'Scrapheap Challenge'. Be gone with your Americanising!
NickTheGreat, Jul 03 2002

I also have 2 complaints about spelling and grammar: *1* preexisting successfully ones >>> pre-existing successful ones || *2* graphics, music. host personalities >>> graphics, music, host personalities

       Sorry
NickTheGreat, Jul 03 2002

       That's "Americanizing."
polartomato, Jul 03 2002

       polartomato: that's Americanising "Americanising".
pottedstu, Jul 03 2002

HEY! That was my idea! Crooks....
Aurora, Jul 03 2002

Yes, from the English point of view 'stu, but if the Americans are doing the Americanizing then they can Americanize if they so desire. Mwa ha ha. Which, by the way, would make an excellent tongue twister.

one criteria of the award should be that it has no redeeming qualities over the 'original' show that inspired it. but that would make practically all tv shows eligible!
