Bloop refers to an immensely loud sound of probable biologic origin detected by Navy surveillance. Most of these sounds have identifiable sources (whales, volcanoes etc) but Bloop is a mystery - see link. The implication is that Bloop comes from some immensely large, unknown sea creature.

My take on this article is that Bloop is coming from one place. Maybe there is only one of them, or maybe all the Bloopers are concentrated there. I propose that a Bloopophone be constructed and deployed in the area to see if the Bloopers can be summoned up, or at least be provoked to issue more bloops.

Do we really want something that big to know we're up here?
lostdog, Jun 18 2003

It could be the prototype sputnik. Incorrect tradjectory calculations accidently launched it into the deep blue. With only a semi-waterproof shell, the famous blings were transformed into Bloops...

Maybe.

Could be a blooper and a practical joke. Where's Dick Clark?

I say we talk to it, but if something tells me I'm on TV. I'm gonna say I knew it all along. +

//Dick Clark//? Is that the US's version of Jeremy Beadle, or more a Dennis Nordon?
silverstormer, Jun 18 2003

A lot of movies about giant monsters trying to take over the world start with ideas like this.

Dick Clarke is a long-time U.S. TV personality. I guess at some point he hosted some kind of practical joke show.

That'll be a US Jeremy Beadle then
