Collectible People

to take home and put on the shelf

Sometimes I see a person in public and wish that I could have a small model of that person and keep it with other small models of people I would collect in my Collectible People collection.

It's a fun pastime to see people and ask yourself if you would collect them.

To create and collect these models would be an act of art.  The makeup of the collection would reflect my apprecation of their existence, yet, I would be copying them into objects in a menagerie on a shelf or to be displayed in an exhibit.

These copies would be all at the same scale, normally 8" tall.

The inventor & artist would create special photographic scanning equipment that would be setup and allow an agreeable subject to be quickly and automatically photographically scanned while standing or seated.  The images would then be stitched together by computer and data generated that could be converted into the model using existing 3D modeling output device.  I don't know if color is already being output by these devises, so, if not, the models would be handpainted from photography.

I'd definitely collect the locally famous Intellectually Disabled artist, black, very large, with a perpetual incredibly large grin and buggy eyes.

The Paranoid Schizophrenic from the Coffee Shop with long grey hair and long beard nicknamed Yosemite.

I happen to work with many Intellectually Disabled, some of whom I would collect.

But many people of all ages and descriptions have that certain collectible impression in my eye.

The invention is both the Collectible People sculpture series and the specialized image-collecting equipment.

       this idea is brilliant,

       changed my perspective

Isn't this the idea behind social media, networking etc.

This would reinforce one of my worst habits. How can I argue against that? [+]

[ ] nifty but I'm not sure I like it.
FlyingToaster, Apr 11 2010

Scale.  The scale would cause the copies to be normally 8" tall.
Mustardface, Apr 12 2010

[+] You could be the Hugh Hefner of action figures! The nonprurient reasons are not quite as interesting at the moment.
ShawnBob, Apr 12 2010

I was thinking that a 6' person would wind up 8" tall. I think that's a 6':8" scale. Everyone would be reduced with the same scale.
Mustardface, Apr 12 2010

+ very weird, yet somehow attractively brilliant!

I think it would be interesting to get drunk with [Mustardface] and [xenzag]. Unlikely though as they both seem to come from somewhere other than my home planet.

Sounds like rapid prototyping voodoo dolls. Not normally my thing. But if it's quick and doesn't involve days of stalking to get finger-nail and hair clippings, I bet more people would give it a go:O) [+]

Excellent. People with a high opinion of themselves could order large batches of themselves to sell to passers by or online.
pocmloc, Apr 17 2010

Some people collect interesting people using candid photography. (I happen to be one of these.) Sharing of 2D images is easy using today's technology but i agree in some instances a model would be *better*!

Wasn't it The Master who used to shrink people down to doll size and keep them in a cupboard?
DrBob, Apr 20 2010

[DrBob] Yes, that shrinking effect used to be his signature attack in the classic Dr Who series.

Homies [Link] produces some really colorful people...based on Mexican stereotypes I know, but fun nonetheless. The mexican restaurant across town from me sells them in their vending machine for 50c. I like them because they capture such personality in miniature.
ShawnBob, Apr 22 2010

I don't think i like this. It seems to reinforce the momentary interesting facets of people rather than the rich tapestry of spacetime that is a human being. The time to properly Venn the human interaction just isn't there.

You might want to check out "Celebriducks": http://www.celebriducks.com/ All to the same 'scale' and they do tend to capture the inner celeb.. ;-)

//The Paranoid Schizophrenic from the Coffee Shop//

Good luck getting him into your mysterious scanning apparatus.
BunsenHoneydew, Dec 30 2012

A 6' person modeled by a doll 8" tall would be 1:9 scale. For comparison, the "GI Joe" series is approximately 1:6 scale (6' = 12").

It would be like collecting pictures of random strangers, only in 3 dimensions. You would need to obtain a model release from them.
whlanteigne, Dec 31 2012

Just walk around with a big plate of silly putty and slam interesting people in the face. They won't mind.
