Cleaner Baths

All you gotta do is move the drain!

I think we all enjoy baths more than showers; you get lie back and relax and play with rubber duckies.

There's only one thing about it that gets on my nerves. The water gets full of whatever grime you had on you, plus any soap or shampoo that you end up using. My usual strategy is to just keep the water running a little and open the drain from time to time. But since the drain and the faucet are on the same side all the water at your feet gets cleaner while any grime that's near your torso doesn't get flushed out.

How about having the drain for the tub on the opposite side from the faucet so that I can actually get water flowing from one side of the tub to the other when I do this?

I can even imagine tubs specially designed to keep the water at a constant level while you have a dial that adjusts the water throughput.

There you go! This sort of bath will be cleaner, would keep your bath water warm, and would help prevent bathtub rings.

I guess this is kind of like a really wimpy version of a tub that has those jet things and constantly circulating water.
snarfyguy, Jun 08 2003

Yeah, I suppose it'd be like that. But this version saves water and electricity, and you aren't adding any new parts that can break over time.
kurleykyew, Jun 08 2003

You actually do this? Sounds like a waste of water. Why not just rinse off with the shower, after you are done with your bath?
JRandMoby, Jun 08 2003

Taking a bath *and* a shower would really be a waste of water.

a 15 minute shower uses 75-150 gallons of water depending on pressure, a bathtub will hold around 50 gallons of water. If we assume I just use enough water to fill the bathtub twice, I'm still probably using less than if I'd taken a shower instead.
kurleykyew, Jun 08 2003

Take a vigorous two minute shower; get the crud off. Then fill the tub and veg out.
snarfyguy, Jun 08 2003

Then when I use soap in the bath, I'll have no way to actually rinse all the soap off since I'll be bathing in shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.

If somehow during my vigorous two minute shower I get myself completely clean, then why take a bath anyway? I could take the bath first, then rinse off in the shower for two minutes I suppose; But taking both a shower and a bath seems a little silly. especially since the water usage is comparable.

So you can play with your duckies. Not my problem, anyway. I'm just telling you how to avoid bathing in dirty water.

The problems you're describing are those which just come with having a bath. The solution to your problem is to take showers instead.
waugsqueke, Jun 08 2003

Why settle when the drain can be moved and I can have the best of both worlds! Having dirty water is not inherent to bathing, so I tasked myself with solving the problem. The solution I have provided is creative and elegant in its simplicity. I'm a genius. Praise me! I thought for sure I'd be buried in french pastries by now~

The answer is quite simple: nymphs - and no, not the larval kind.
thumbwax, Jun 09 2003

my bath has the taps in one corner, and the plug-hole at the side in the middle. just thought you'd like to know
pjd, Jun 09 2003

i think there are good reasons for having the drain where it is, but i to enjoy bathing in clean water. I do shower first, a quick shower, the main thing to clean is feet. I think the solution to your problem is to have two drains one at each end.
love2everyone, Jun 09 2003

(-) because showers are best as they use a great deal less water than baths do, on average.

       I'm gettin' no love.

kurls, stop whining. Everyone else, I'm tired of the "just do what everyone else does" arguement. Yes, there is always more than one way to skin a cat (just an expression, po). This idea proposes a simple, comfortable solution to dirty bathwater. Sure, it sounds terribly wasteful and inefficient, and these criticisms are valid. But if the current options were acceptable, kk wouldn't have spent the effort to post here.

Then again, if you were all just trying to help kurley out, then please accept my humble apology.

I think you'd find it takes a pretty big force to maintain a strong fast current of water at the edges of the bath; the middle shouldn't be so much of an issue. But we're talking about an awful lot of water being pumped through this bath to keep it continually clean and to prevent rings of scum building up at the edges. Your water rates will rocket, and if you're in the UK they'll probably implement a 'bath ban' in the summer; they ban the use of hose pipes when we have a lot of hot weather, after all.

Also you'll probably be swept to the far end of the bath every few seconds. Maybe a safety harness should be included.

Can't be comfortable either way, you'd be better off standing up in the shower and letting gravity do its jobs.

I believe the word you are looking for is "Stream". Downside is that most come with only cold running water, and some have various forms of aquatic life. Upside is that no bathtime sludge coagulates around your nether regions.

I'm with [Kreuner], sitting on the plug would be uncomfortable whether it was in or out.

You might be better off getting one of those baths with a shower head on a hose in addition to the faucet. That way you can add water to any point in the bath.

       What worldgineer said.
egbert, Jun 11 2003

how about taking an 8 minute shower like me? it would waste half the water and half the time, then you can go watch TV, eat and not worry about your water bill!
GenericMan, Jun 11 2003

Have you ever taken a Bubble Shower? Saaaaay...
