Character Sanity Index
A ticker characters can look at during a tragedy to determine how crazy the the lead character is. | |
I was reading over some Shakespearean tragedies, and noticed that it's pretty obvious to the audience, and not to any of the characters, just how homicidally nuts the main characters get. I suggest a something like a stock ticker that a secondary character can check during the play so as to avoid angering
the main character and getting cacked in the final scene. "Whoa, Dad's hubris is up 2 points," thinks Goneril (King Lear). "Maybe I'll wait on kicking his troops out of my castle."
Could make for some very short, uneventful plays, but would significantly reduce the body count.

Quite similar to a movie in which the characters can hear the soundtrack. "I wonder what's behind this door..." BA-dum, BA-dum, BA-DUM! "... actually, no I don't." |
|
|
"Scary music! Don't open that door!" |

Could be amusing for a comedy, but this sort of thing has been baked for at least 50 years. A Bugs Bunny cartoon has him speaking 'island' language, with subtitles <30 seconds of gibberish for 'How are you?' and 'Meee-oh' for 'Now is the time for all good men...'>, another character replies in English and a lot of 'oo-hee ugh' subtitle, and a third says 'Gosh, did you say that?' while pointing at it. |

And halfway through each performance of Hamlet the
damned thing keeps blowing up. |

the halfbakery ticker...'whoa, i didn't know the scale went that high.' |

What we really need is a ticker that shows us how sane the people we deal with on a daily basis are.... |
