Chalkboard Statues

Coated in black slate-like material. Graffiti encouraged.

Statues of controversial people are getting ripped down these days as a sort of second cousin to book burning.

How about statues that encourage commentary? Statues of controversial figures that have an effect on the present day like Karl Marx for instance. Let people have their say about the guy.

Chalk would be supplied and the winter rains would wash away the commentary to clear the way for the next commentators.

You could also have non controversial guys like Jimmie Hendrix where people could write positive stuff, draw flowers and whatnot.

Why only two thousand years? Can you see any shortage of horrible shit in the millenia before them?

I suspect that it's harder to name names beyond two millennia.

[Maxwell Buchanan], the earliest name-identified person is Iry-Hor, from Egypt, 5,200 years ago. So that's the extreme limit (not saying he was a perpetrator of horrible shit).
[bigsleep] absolutely. "Those who ignore the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them" (or words to that effect; I forget who said it).

If you can't remember the act, the act is obviously a new experience.

//not saying he was a perpetrator of horrible shit//

Indeed; he probably established himself as the ruler of Egypt and had his name laboriously carved on stones entirely by patient consensus-building and friendly persuasion.

       Love this.
