My dad used to use a device that gave a quick squirt of CO2 for knocking insects out so they could be more easily collected and examined. |

Apparently originally designed to pop corks out of wine bottles, it was powered by a Sparklets mini CO2 canister. |

You could probably use one for putting out candles, if they were still made - they were withdrawn from the market as the wine bottles had a tendency to explode before the cork popped out! |

I seem to remember a science teacher filling a cup with Co2 because it is heavier than air and then pouring it on a candle to extinguish it. If I didn't just spontaneously invent that memory, then your canister of Co2 could fill a snuffer container that you could pour with no splatter. |
