Corrupt policemen are becoming a problem these days, and who can blame them? People are assholes, they're overworked, underpaid, and etc. This problem can (hopefully) through careful monitoring. Why not issue sidearms with digital cameras built in? What better way to control the crazies then to make
sure that big brother is always watching? Once the firearm is removed from the holster, the camera starts recording, if shots are fired, the video is later reviewed and disciplinary action can be taken if necessary.
Gun Camera Justice
http://www.halfbake...GunCamera_20Justice Essentially the same idea. [waugsqueke, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

If i'm not mistaken, a little-known device much like this is in development in the US already. I think i saw it on the Discovery Channel... |

[in response to waugs' link]- i'm suggesting using this for sidearms which are probably misused more often than sniper rifles. |

Whatever the suggested use, the heart of the idea is the same. |

I agree that this idea is redundant with the linked idea. Whether it is a sidearm or a rifle, the SWAT team or regular patrol officers, are trivial details. The idea is the same. |

[zanzibar]-//If they do use the weapon then how do you ensure the video is captured? Is it broadcast back to base immediately?//- no, a magical fairy carries it to HQ in the magical land of Hona Lee... honestly. Systematic disarmament of the citizenry? If you didn't have a gun, the King of England could just waltz up and take your house... and you couldn't take down psychotic vigilantes. |

How about a gun inside a working video camera. This is used for the sniper that needs to get through security.. Could also be mounted to a motorized tripod and opperated remotely via cell phone and modem. |
