Bungee Bike

leaps and bounds ahead of pedal pushers

A bungee bike is what you get if you cross a doorway baby bouncer with a dandy-horse (early bicycle without pedals). It looks like a girl’s bike but without the saddle and pedals. Between the center of the handlebars and a post above the rear wheel are extended two short bungee cords joined to a comfy seat.

Thus, one can transport oneself easily, quickly and safely by bouncing, pushing away from the pavement and coasting before foot contact again, with something akin to the grace of a kangaroo. Downhill coasting is accomplished in a laid-back posture with the feet on the frame and necessary use of the hand brakes. Climbing steep hills can be done in the saddle at a walk. So get some exercise or get yourself to work by bounding, polka hopping or moon jogging on a bungee bike.

I'd like to try this, but I think you'd have to be leaning forward, otherwise your legs would exert an upward and *backward* force on your bike, instead of the forward force you want.

I think I need to see a picture of this one.

Not exactly the springwalker (see link) I think I understand the concept, and will try making one till the beginning of the summer.... Stay tuned.

Kids would love this, get on it, Christmas is coming.

       As usual, a great illustration.

With the recent report on fertility and men's biking we'll certainly see inovations in bike seats soon. Why do testicles have to ride on the seat? Can't they design a seat that uses the upper thighs and butt without the need for the front section?

Looks like a wedgie machine... An elastic cord climbing up your arse would certainly put the "bung" back in bungee!

The design would have to be modified. The attached saddle is going to be very unstable. Perhaps if there are two guiderails that the saddle is able to move up and down on, without tettering.

or how about if it had three wheels? maybe you would be harnessed in from above. almost to hang beneath a tripod on wheels.

Do you still have the illustration? Geocities died last year :-(

See new link... (just a sec)

Why was this idea not brought to my attention sooner?
