Breaking Glass at the Fair

Break glass and ceramics at the county fair. Best $2 ever spent!

When you go to a county fair or a carnival (I assume that such things still exist) you often see little stands set up where you can shoot bottles or stuffed animals with a toy gun. I propose a new game. You walk up to the booth, pay your $2, and throw old ceramic dishware and glasses at a brick wall. The idea here is that everyone likes breaking things. It's great stress relief, but not something we get to indulge in very often. Good Will and Surplus stores all over the country have oodles of old kitchenware just sitting around. Well, here's a good use for it. Even better, the broken glass will still be recyclable. Of course, any at the booth would be required to wear safety goggles.

Heh i used to do this for free when i was a kid, throw glass bottles at the factory wall. I stopped doing it when I got a glass splinter in my eye (thankfully no damage)

There's already a game where you can throw baseballs at plates on a rack. Do not agree to work there--you will get your fingers cut up.

       OPA!

Um, I think that's a pretty common sense measure in this instance... It's not like wearing goggles in chemistry class in middle school for combining baking soda and vinegar. Exploding glass is pretty damn dangerous for your eyes.

I mean honestly, there's a respondent just three annotators above you who described actually getting glass in his eye from this...

Or you get to beat up a car for 100 money units. Or maybe tear down a house for a thousand. Kick a dog? No, these wouldn't be very nice ideas either would they?

There *is* a difference between kicking a dog for fun and breaking old, unwanted plates for fun. This is just the sort of thing which would go down well at a fair. It is a little bit baked though - I've seen the same kind of fairground breaking plates thing as [baconbrain].

Yes, I know. It's just that I'm having more and more attacks of extreme ethics lately.

There is a tradition in Germany called 'Polterabend' which takes place on the evening before the wedding, and consists of everyone bringing in any unused porcelain (sometimes even toilet seats) and smashing them in front of the soon-to-be-weds house. Lots of fun. I would not be paying for this, though, as there is ample opportunity for smashing things in the local recyling station.

we used to do this at the dump when we were kids. (that's way back when people actually dumped stuff off at the dump, not in some kind of giant trash compactor!)

I used to do this in a lab I worked at until somebody decided I was having too much fun (and the sound of a couple hundred variously sized bottles being smashed one at a time was too annoying to people who didn't actually get to do the smashing, themselves).
