Every once in awhile, some pranksters get people to sign petitions to ban di-hydrogen monoxide, hydrogen hydroxide, hydroxic acid, or some other such substance. After all, these substances can cause death in many animal species including humans, contribute to corrosion of many metals, and may contribute
to global warming.
I for one don't think banning those substances would be a good idea. On the other hand, given how dangerous they can be it might not be a bad idea to include warning labels on the packaging. Ensure that purchasers are aware that if they pour too much of the liquid into a bucket a child could drown in it, and that if left in extended contact with ferrous metals it may promote rust. Given that so many other dangerous materials require labels, why not those ones?

That MSDS seems to downplay or ignore some serious hazards associated with water. For example, it does not provide any indication of necessary first aid for inhalation, despite the fact that inhalation of water in the liquid form may pose serious or fatal risks. |
