Bob Postcards

A More Personal Type of Vacation Postcard

Postcards are too impersonal. Just another huge Eiffel Tower, how exciting. Greetings from France! They're all the same. Boring!

Hire a guy named 'Bob'. He's gotta have the right look, kind of like the 'guy with a towel' from kids in the hall, if that reference makes sense to anybody except myself. Middle aged fellow. Definitely -not- a model type. Take him around the world, to all the beautiful sights, and have him stand in front of everything. Snap pictures, with an 'i'm a member of the family' smile. Send those out to all your relatives, with the phrase 'Greetings from x, love Bob' on the front. Voila, instant personality. You can still appreciate the beauty of the scene in the background but it's not quite so trite.

[To preemptively answer- yes, having yourself in the picture might be better. But that requires processing. This is already on the shelf.]

I'd like to see a range of postcards featuring the fat guy in the jogging suit from Donnie Darko. Obscure, maybe, but funny.

insert obligatory "who's that up there with Bob?" post here.
ato_de, Jun 05 2003

would have to have a lot of 'Bobs' and 'Susies'. Chinese Bob, otherwise known as Bu Yi. African Bob, aka Babuzi. Indian Bob, aka Babu.... the list is endless. Fat bob, skinny bob, acne prone bob, billy bob! Why not get all postcard vendors install an "Instant photo" booth, and sell postcards with cut outs that read "insert your photo here"... Ta Da! more business for the vendor, more personalized for u!

The guy with the towel from "Kids in the Hall" (Canadian sketch comedy show from the early 90's) was Bellini. They had a contest called "Touch Bellini". Pretty self-explanatory.

       Greetings from Lewes!

[DrB] - I was waiting for that...

Yeah, I know. I've been heroically trying to resist temptation but had to succumb in the end.

Hehe, I would certainly use these if they existed. And Bob is the perfect common sounding name. Second best probably would've been Brian, or maybe George. Oh, and I agree [sambwiches], he has to be fat (but not morbidly obese)! I don't know why, he just does.

       Great movie.

Oh, I see who Bellini is now, thanks [Worldgineer]. Yep, he's perfect, just the right obesity and look about him. Maybe he should even be in a towel for the postcards!
RoboBust, Jun 05 2003

But wouldn't a fatter Bob block out the tourist attraction?
calculust, Jun 05 2003

Not if he's about the same distance from the camera as he is in the link. There's still plenty of horizon!
RoboBust, Jun 05 2003

This reminds me of the guy in the cap who supposedly was photographed on top of the WTC as the planes were coming in. Folks have made many other pics featuring this guy. I laughed pretty hard. [link]

How about the same coin, different side. Incredibly attractive people to add a snazzle factor to your vacation photography.
