A bike seat that leaks blood-red dye into the cushion if a hidden button hasn't been pressed within the past month.

Why wait so long - why not have it activate for each use unless disarmed?

Because I'd forget to push the button often. Hopefully I'd remember at least once per month.

Pressing button resets timer holding back powerful spring loaded spike
pocmloc, May 06 2013

[pocmloc] from the help file //cruelty - the idea is a new way of torturing or killing a person or an animal for pleasure or revenge. For example new, more painful ways of executing prisoners; or ways to booby-trap one's home to maim burglars.// Spring loaded spikes in seats are old news, and can get ideas into mfd land.
xenzag, May 06 2013

[xenzag] has an excellent point, except for the fact that this is not a new way of torturing or killing a person or an animal for pleasure or revenge, and does not involve a spring loaded spike. Spot on, [xen].
MaxwellBuchanan, May 06 2013

OK, good point. So, the spike is fake, the spring very weak and there is a concealed steel plate between the spike and the seat. But it looks terrifying.
pocmloc, May 07 2013

       Heh. I like that.
Worldgineer, May 07 2013

See, I was just protecting the bike seat. Bike seats have to be the most frequent bike part stolen. I had several stolen in college. Riding home is still possible, but much less fun.

Your idea would work as well.
Worldgineer, May 08 2013

[max] has an excellent point, except he fails to notice I was referring to [pocmloc's] annotation and not actual the idea.
xenzag, May 08 2013

Ah - in that case, collapse of stout party and apologies to [xenzag].

Freud was a pseudointellectual and a preud.
MaxwellBuchanan, May 08 2013

[MB] I can only applaud the way you slipped "preud" in there as if it was a word. Or was this just prior to Freud becoming an "ud"?

//I've had 3 whole bikes stolen, never once had just the seat taken

Presumably there is the third option of someone stealing bikes, but leaving the saddles behind?
not_morrison_rm, May 09 2013

"Wo! Piles giving you gyp mate?"

"Na, it's me bleadin' bike seat."

Potentially, instead of just using paint, it could annotate the thief's rear with a legend:

       "Dirty", or
"Kick here", or
"Caution : noxious fumes", or
"I'm with stupid ^".
