This product would consist of various bacterial cultures to be introduced to babies and young children at various ages.

The newborn version would have initial cultures for gut bacteria and innate immune response. After a month a different culture would be introduced containing bacteria against which breast milk has helped immunize the baby. Three months later a new one. Two years later another one. the idea is to initialize digestion and immunity without parents having to feel bad about their babies playing in dirt.

Why not just put the babies in the dirt and tell the parents to get over it and stop behaving like spoilt Americans?

That's what we're doing for our child. We sweep, dust, mop, and call it good. We use antibacterial sanitizer for things that really should be sanitized, such as where the cat's been (in the British vernacular), but we leave a bit of grime and a few allergens scattered around. Now that the weather is turning less white we are going outside, and when he is self-mobile I plan to encourage my child to eat dirt and expose himself to all kinds of things, avoiding only the spots where the dogs have been.

Nine months on and we have the healthiest child possible.

With the advent of fecal transplants, this idea is even more germane. <ahem>

+ for the idea name. I'm sure you can come up with a more entertaining idea to go with it though!

Aren't humans programmed to do this automatically? Sticking things in their mouths, rolling around on the ground and the like?

[+] for anything which counters the dangerously simplistic idea that "bacteria = diseases = bad".
