Instead of the traditional "ding dong, trick or treat", this would be the October 31st "ding dong, which would you like?"
If the person can and wants to give, they can. If the person wants to but can't, then you give them a treat from your "other" bag. (If they are mighty poor, but not too proud,
a can of soup, or some crackers, etc would be great).
Maybe the next year they could be doing well, and well, well you ain't.When you go to their door you just kinda mutter, I'll take this year kind soul, and hopefully next year I can give again.
Costumes are as usual. One bag to get, one to give. Of course someone two houses down might have given you a can of Dinty Moore Stew, which isn't your cup o'tea, but it might just be a substantial dinner for the little old lady down the street.
Don't know about you, but I would like to see the rejuvination of Halloween to be a national, or even international holiday, of giving, and taking. This country needs to send a message to our children. Holidays are not meant to gather all the toys, etc that you can get your hands on. (Thinking Willy Wanka).
Teach them young and profoundly, that before they sit their fat middle class asses down on Santa's lap, that they have only been good if they gave.

//Angels on my front walk//
No, I'm right here.
Good one, [bliss]; love ya. |
I love the idea blissmiss. I would enjoy not only giving a child a treat but also putting a can of soup or other food item in the "other bag". Giving a child a sense of worth is so important. |

Rob with a witch, give to the poor? |
I like the sentiment, sort of mixing Harvest Festival with Halloween. |
This is nice - as you probably know, Halloween was originally All Saint's Eve; this is a great idea. |
I thought it was originally Samhain. |
Might I suggest the use of a wagon or convenient tin-can herding stick as the cans are going to get pretty darn heavy after a few blocks. |
Spoon, the traditional little red wagon would be perfect. Or if you don't got one of them, a wheelbarrow would work. (Hmm...wheelbarrow. Is that even still a word?) |
Or you could steal a stack of those small supermarket baskets. That would be nice, and good advertisements for the stores! |
Bliss, dear Bliss, I knew this was yours before I got to the end of the third paragraph. Lovely. |
A halfbakery Halloween trick or treat. Hmmm, here's your "door pathbeater", now may I have one of them dern Hullaballons? |
How about eliminate the ideas of holidays alltogethor. Any day is a good day to show thanks, give priase, and give gifts, for any reason and or to anyone you choose. I have not celebrated one state/culturary appointed holiday one day of my life, and it is to my advantage. |
Sounds rather boring actually. Holidays are mere celebrartions, covered in a blanket of tradition. |
Somethings should just remain a postive experience. (Are you a "witness" per chance?) |
//get your hands on. (Thinking Willy Wanka)// |

//asses down on Santa's lap// |

When the perp's name is Wanka, and he starts grabbing, you know he's a pedophile. |

Hallow'een, as practised now, is the most disgusting of our traditions today. Whilst other holidays feature overdoing food and drink, it is only at hallow'een that we turn our children out on the street to learn how to beg from and threaten their communities. |
So [+] (capital +) for this idea as it is a way to make Hallow'een a little less selfish. |
Give instead of demand - I like it! |
Nice, the sleeping bum is igloo'd by donation cans. Wakes confused and amazed. |
