An alternative government is basically a private, non-nation-state organisation which collects taxes and provides services to its 'citizens' i.e. members.
It organises and presents itself as a parallel to the nation state. It's just a private members organisation like the AA or the Freemasons but
its aims are to run the services of a nation.
This is for all those people who feel disenfranchised by the government of e state they live in.
Services might include state handouts, rubbish collection, schools, healthcare, as well as 'consular services' relating to dealing with actual nation-state governments. There would be a legal system with courts and fines, as well as a police service.
Once a few million people have signed up here, things might start to happen!

We have an almost perfect government. It is a bit too
expensive, but most of that money is spent preventing the
government from doing anything, which is mostly what is
needed. |

If my gut's not wrong then WWII never really ended... it just turned long-term economic. There's more than one way to skin a cat right? |
|
|
WWII was just a run-on conflict after the hashed resolution
of WWI - which in turn was kind of due to tensions built up
after the end of the Crimean war, which itself... |

The opt-in part is easy. Opting out of your current government is the hard part, unless you can buy an island or want to live on an abandoned AA platform in the English Channel. |

I could've sworn I'd posted something similar in an opt-in type of government, where all non-basic infrastructural services are run by competing private corporations on some kind of subscription basis, essentially privatizing the parties and letting them play in their own sandboxes. |

If you guys read some fiction you'd realize that this is not an original idea. Start with Snow Crash, and branch out from there. |
