Alternate Sportscasters

 Give viewers a choice of who to hear talk over a broadcast game.

I can pretty much follow my favorite sports without help. And often, I am bored stiff by the announcers given. Why not sell the rights to broadcast alternate voiceovers? Le'ts hear Chris Rock, Al Sharpton and some backwoods snakehandler interpret MNF. Four or five alternatives using current or former celebrities or unknowns with an unusual slant might make a boring game less tedious. Maybe these alternates could be "sponsored by" someone who paid their fees. Given the myriad choices of broadcasting, one could receive the audio on an obscure channel or watch the game with the volume down while hearing the alt voices over the internet.

       This is baked already on Sky Sports (UK Satellite channels) which often offer "fanzone" where fans (sometimes celebrity fans) offer commentary during games as an alternative to the usual sports-journalists.

       also baked with BBC Freeview. You can choose a radio commentary for a BBC television broadcast. [acerru] is taking this already baked service a step further.

       There's actually a seperate channel on most TV's that you could use. It's generally used for the Spanish dub of the program, etc. but we could use it for the "whimsical" commentary of a sports program instead.   

       I'd also like to never hear Madden commentate again. Ever.
