A Pure Glass Bicycle is a bicycle that's totally made from glass - this means every single part, including the handlebars, frame, tyres, spokes, and all of the moving components such as the pedals, crank, gears, chain, and brakes are made from glass and only glass.
The challenge is that it must be
rideable without breaking.
There are of course small ormanental glass bikes, but this one must function as a vehicle capable of being propelled along at least on a rubberised surface. Who's going to make my Pure Glass Bike?

I am familiar with his work, a giant example of which hangs above one of the entrances of the V&A museum in London. |

Whos going to make it? Whos going to ride it! You have to find someone with a pure glass ass. |

Even assuming that fibreglass and reinforced glass are disallowed, I think it's feasible. |

Glass can be pretty tough, when it's made appropriately. I've seen people bashing rods of glass, and absolutely whaling on glass panes to demonstrate its toughness. I'm reasonably sure the frame and mechanical couplings are feasible, although they may need to be quite chunky.
And when it's fine, glass is impressively flexible. Spinning glass threads into a tyre-like structure feels to me like it would be possible, although some specifically designed machinery may be needed - I don't know if any manufacturing process currently does that, or anything close enough that it could be appropriated. |
