50-year glasses

Glasses that grow with you

As anyone who wears glasses knows, vision changes over the years. Therefore, one has to have one's eyes rechecked and buy new glasses every couple years. I have two solutions to this problem: 1) A pair of glasses with two lenses per eye; one lense is fixed, the other can be adjusted like the zoom on a camera. 2) the glass/plastic lense is replaced with a transparent rubber-like material suspended on fine threads in the frame. This rubber lense is deformed, similar to the lense in a human eye, by turning a small knob on the side of the glasses which tightens the thread. In this way, the need for new glasses is eliminated, as one just turns the dial until the world can be seen clearly. These would also eliminate the need for reading glasses and the like, as you simply turn the dial knob back for reading, then forward again for everything else.

RIP Aegis - killed by a rampaging mob of unemployed optometrists.

I would use my glasses as a SUPER ray gun for melting ants.

Except that when you put just a teeeeeeny amount of extra myopic prescription (called "minus power") in front of someone's eyes, they adapt to it and enjoy it, because it makes objects slightly smaller and darker. Eventually you adapt enough to where, left to your own, you'd want to add a teeny bit more of this "minus power" to your own prescription. This is called "Creeping Myopia" and doctors are trained to avoid it so that everyone that wears glasses doesn't end up with coke-bottle lenses before they are 35. It's like Valium, if we were allowed to self-dispense it, we'd start with 1 pill a day and end up... Rush Limbaugh.

[eyeguy], are you just going to respond to every eye posting on the Halfbakery and then disappear into the night? *sob*
