Stephen Hawking currently occupies Isaac Newton's chair at Cambridge University. The chair was created to mark Newton's visionary genius and has been home to many eminent scientists since then.
I would like to propose the creation of a 'John Peel Chair' by the BBC in honour of the great man's contribution to the variety of British culture and steady hand at the tiller of our musical output. The holder would be automatically entitled to a one hour show every week on BBC Radio 1 in which they have complete control of the playlist.
I would also like to put Eddy Temple-Morris of XFM fame (?) up as the first nominee due to his consistent unearthing of new material.-- wagster, Oct 26 2004 (?) Obituary http://www.guardian...711,1336387,00.htmlIf you don't know who he was... [wagster, Oct 26 2004] I'd rather they honour him by just playing better music on that crap radio station.
I love the idea of a free slot where you can play whatever you like though. So long as the BBC keep their noses out the playlist, it's a great idea +-- spiritualized, Oct 26 2004 John was brilliant. Couldn't say I liked his musical taste, but who am I against such a man? His delivery was great, I could have listened to a whole show without any music. I'll miss him.-- david_scothern, Oct 26 2004 <home truth> Gutted. </home truth>-- gnomethang, Oct 26 2004 +. I always felt it was the other way round. (although he did help launch the careers of The Undertones, The Sex Pistols, The Smiths, The Manic Street Preachers, The Fall, The White Stripes, The Strokes, David Bowie...)-- Fishrat, Oct 27 2004 Re: The Undertones. When he first played Teenage Kicks on his program, he promptly added that he thought it was so good he was going to play it again, and so he did, straight after. Who needs playlists eh?-- goff, Oct 27 2004 +++-- DrBob, Oct 27 2004 What DrBob said.-- calum, Oct 27 2004 random, halfbakery
