Perhaps some sort of super-absorbency can be achieved with a blend of coir, spaghnum moss, and hemp. Add in a bit of invasive phragmites fibre, and we can solve two problems at once!

With our worldwide wave of aging populations, this is definitely a half-baked problem which could escape into the real world.
