Remember "Talkboy" or the "Yak Bak" (do a search if not)? "Yak Bak"s are as cheap as $5 @ Wal-mart. You record a message, then play it back at the press of a button. How about a wirelssly activated playback?

You could just use a walkie-talkie or baby monitor or wireless intercom or cordless phone or cell phone or wireless stereo extender and send the audio directly. Toy walkie-talkies are very cheap these days and FRS radios aren't much more.

No, No, No. That isn't at all what I was proposing.

What I'm proposing is secretly activating a pre-recorded message or sound (like a phone ringing) from a wireless device in my pocket, or embedded in something (like a throw pillow), without anyone knowing what triggered it.

It would be the perfect planned interruption to excuse yourself from that unwanted visitor - it could also be extremely useful for pranks, or for a million other uses.

Lazy? I don't think so. Clicking a browser button, and typing "Yak Bak" would have been much easier for you than typing that verbose and contradictory reply.

Boy, cant you guys stay focused on what you're reading? The first reply totally missed what a wireless talkboy is supposed to do. Next guy says "I don't know what it is"... um, in the same paragraph which you quoted it says: "You record a record a message, then play it back at the press of a button". Not to be rude, but wake-up.

Now, back to the topic-at-hand: I just simulated a "wireless talkboy" with an old answering machine that plays the outgoing message on powerup - and a wireless outlet switch ($10 after Xmas special, used for switching on outside Xmas lights). Worked like a dream. With my fully functional and proven prototype I'm on my way.

Laterz loserz... Halfbakery.com is apparently a major waste of time.

The device here would be electronically and functionally similar to a wireless doorbell, but most wireless doorbells are somewhat large, designed for permanent mounting, designed to be heard many feet away (i.e. loud), and designed to either run for months on a set of batteries or else use mains power. This device would be optimized for small size--maybe 1"x2.5"x0.5" or thereabouts, but it wouldn't have to be as loud as the wireless doorbell cited. If the device had an "off" switch a battery life of even a week would be quite adequate.
