white tint
tired of black tinted windows, how about white? | |
thought occured to me today while scraping the ice off my car. there shouldn't be ice in dallas, but that's another idea.
black tinted windows are not only useful, but also very popular. i think people enjoy the privacy. and the 'kids' like it these days too. so what about having windows tinted
so that they're white? i'm not sure how you'd do it, or if it would look as good as i imagine... but it's the *idea* man... it would look sweet on a white car i think.

What you'd want would be a "scrim" on the windows which was light colored on the outside and dark on the inside. Indeed, I've seen vans with designs painted on the exteriors which covered the windows as well; since the windows had scrims on them, it was possible to see out but from the outside the windows were almost invisible. |

yes, i guess i have seen scrim's on busses now that you mention it supercat. that's exactly what i was thinking of... baked. |

Actually, now that I think about it I do find it a little surprising that scrims aren't used in more places as "one-way glass". Unlike conventional one-way glass, a scrim doesn't require a substantial brightness differential between the inside and outside. |

Do you mean an opaque coating within the glass (as modern windscreens are laminated, this shouldn't be too hard) with many tiny holes, like a vast array of pinhole cameras? |

3M makes a "switchable privacy film" intended to be laminated to glass. Normally a translucent, frosted white, it becomes instantly clear when power is applied. See link, (if'n ya' wan'ta) |

I've seen this on buses here as well... but I've also seen a pretty big trend of people using this sort of "tint" type of thing that causes holograms to appear in the windows from certain angles. |

Am I the only one who wonders about the utility of dark window tinting in regards to heat reduction? I like the idea of a white window tinting. |
