Big massive LCD monitor on the wall, with big webcam pointing into bar / cafe.
Same for the other side.
One lot of people will out getting drunk, the other will be having breakfast.
You will be able to shout and wave at each other.
You could have load of them, with 'sibling' bars all around
the world.
You could arrange to "meet" friends as well.

Cool idea. Telecom New Zealand did this when the Amercias Cup was being held in Auckland. They installed screens with live feeds in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. |
smart. in fact you don't even need a bar - you perhaps do it instead of statue in a town centre. |
Maybe some twinned towns could start it off. |
Then again, do you really want to watch people on the otherside of world urinating, fighting and vomiting in public while you walk to walk? |
Quite possibly actually ... |
Have a bun while you wave to the noo yoikers. [+] |
Damn, why isn't this a bar with twins on webcam like I was promised in the brochure? I don't care what them folks is having for breakfast, whurs the nekkid wimmin? |
Salmon of doubt - good idea, maybe it should have an 'adult' channel setting as well. |
I think, with some careful planning, a chain of these twin-bars could be set up around the world, each with two big screens. |
When a bar opens there is only one screen active, showing a live feed from the previous bar in the chain which is ahead a few hours and therefore all the punters are already starting to get "merry". |
Roughly half way through the night, the 2nd screen kicks into action and shows the next bar in the chain which is just opening, while they get to see you and your fellow patrons.... |
So on and so on, this could potentially span the globe and create a 24hr party with a neverending soundtrack and live web feeds! |

Oh and please, just call me [SoD] |

I would come and wave my hand for those who are on the other side. I believe the communication between people. Another phenomenon I imagine is - many people would invite each other to come to this kind of virtual meating, that you would have more people than you need. |
And then laugh at the drunks who try to walk through the screen, or hit on waitresses on the other side. [+] |
I saw this at BAR Tampa around 1999...they had a live video feed from some other (apparently related) bar (BAR Atlanta?). |
I haven't been to many bars since :) |

//hit on waitresses on the other side.// You've been going to the wrong seances. |

I was going to do the usual "[Salmon Of Doubt] began their account on said date, posted one idea, and was never" etc., but a search reveals that while having posted only one idea the questioning fish has an extensive comment history. |
So never mind, carry on as you were. |

How long till someone changes the channel to chat roulette? |
