When test screening a new film, hook each audience member up to a heart monitor. Collate all the data and determine an average. Then analyse the peaks and troughs against a timeline from the film, to determine which scenes were exciting and which were boring. To take the idea further, thump-o-graphs from different films can be compared to see which is the most exciting scene of all time! (would probably only work if the audience had not seen the film before...)
