it might look like magic but in fact it’s just an ordinary wooden fruit and vegetable stall complete with loads of fruit and vegetables.
each piece of fruit and veg is meticulously attached by transparent thread to the back of the stall and so in the event of a collision with a passing parkour runner, a barrow load of rabid monkeys or an escaping villain in a Mini-Cooper or Aston Martin or whatever – all the fruit and vegetables are spilled out onto the street in an authentic manner only to be re-set in their original places by a quick yank on the bunched up threads behind the stall.

take after take after re-take by the film director can be made without a constant need to replenish the stall with fresh fruit and veg.

‘Eastenders’ actors could have as many drunken punch-ups in the market as the storyline dictates.

“mind me stall for 5 minutes…”

..... and if the threads get tangled up, even more fun watching the wayward items spinning around in mid air as they get re-wound. (+)

Both Ingmar Bergman and Antonioni passed away before reading this. Some things are so sad.

Bring tennis racquets and have a game of swingfruit.

The same principle of elasticated restraints to return things to their pre-stunt positions could also be applied to the piles of empty cardboard boxes which it is mandatory for Hollywood car chases to drive through.

Pulling strings is a well-practiced skill in Hollywood, from what I've heard, so bun it.

where's thumbwax when you need him?
po, Aug 09 2007

you're quite right [hippo] I'm thinking vegetable stalls are just a beginning.

How about electromagnets? Each layer works separately with RFID and a small battery. A powerful magnetic "broom" swoops them back. Once in place power them off.

Anyway the 2007 image link in Cairo gives a 404 in Chinese.
