the drama queen’s speech

get an actor to read the government’s speech to the UK parliament

HRH does not write the queen’s speech to parliament and few of the public listens to this outdated tradition.

as an accolade to a successful actor – voted by the readers of the Daily Sun/Daily Mirror – the winning celebrity could turn in the performance of a lifetime by reading the governments proposals for the next year.

the electorate might actually listen to what is being said and when the government don’t come up with the goods, the population is more likely to remember the fact at the next election.

what voting for the actor or reading the speech?
po, Nov 10 2002

Perhaps Queen Elizabeth II could write her own speech, saying what she/the general public would like the government to do. Then Rt. Hon Lord Blair could provide a rebuttal, and what he wants the government to do in the next year. Once that is out the way, you have a 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' style vote on which route the government should follow, with each MP having one vote. The results are recorded and published in all newpapers, so that the First Lord Of The Treasury can be held accountble for his lack of actions, or for makign the wrong ones. Much more democratic.

So in real English, "goverment" is plural while "population" is singular?

Otherwise, Dame Edna might like to serve her/his Queen.

Po is trying to make herself a place in government.

Don't you think the Queen (Gawd bless 'er) *is* an actor?

(BTW [po] - HM is HM, not HRH - that's what Charles and co are.)

Isn't she a lizard? Thats what David Ike reckons.

And the speech won't even mention the Euro referendum which may or may not occur.

Tony Blair using the Queen as a mouthpiece (_:_)

I like the Queen reading out her speech. It's kind of comforting and makes digesting Xmas dinner quite a lot easier. However I think that incorporationg Tyskland's idea could make it much more watchable rather than just being on.

It is isn't it. Well that can do the same to that one as well. It really would make Christmas telly a whole lot more exciting.

Get James Earl Jones to read it.

<Vader> The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away ....... The regional governors now have direct control over territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line ..... our government will roll out a flexible, socially-conscious programme of brutality and opression within the lifetime of this Parliament ..... </Vader>

No-one would know the difference ... and at least it would be the truth for once ....
