This is a band comprised of a group of aging rockers whose voices have dropped a couple of octaves. Seemingly all washed up, they have reconstituted as the bubble boys, a group that performs enclosed in a giant bubble that is filled with a He/O2 mixture. The breathable mixture raises the pitch of the
aging vocal cords, seemingly rejuvenating them.
The bubble boys perform outdoors mostly, and after the last set, the bubble is cut loose, and the boys play the last number as they drift away overhead...circled by trailing guide ropes, like a gigantic aerial jellyfish.
Urk! I agree with waugsqueke. Case in point:
http://www.amazon.c...0006L7XQ/halfbakery "Hurt" is deservedly getting a lot of play on MTV. Now I need to go and wash my mind out with soap. Ugh. [DrCurry, Oct 05 2004]
Something to consider

Don't people do this electronically already? In fact, why shouldn't they do what everyone else does and lip synch to their old recordings? |
|
|
Pitch transposition is quite baked and certainly easier and healthier. I must disagree with the premise, however. I think many singers' voices take on more character and quality as they age. |

Surely the Doppler effect as the balloon drifts away would negate the voice-rejuvenating effects of the helium? I suppose you could always chase after them in a helicopter, making sure you continually adjust the distance so that you are always in the "sounds good" envelope. |

Helicopter pilots as sound engineers... I should probably await the glider-pilot remix |

sting has no problems. whenever he becomes unable to sing an old classic, he can just have those damn sugababes cover it for him. gggrrrr. |

Don't let Robert Plant hear about this. We don't need any more of that squealing he used to do in the 70's. |

Jacko, for instance... (slaps himself for even mentioning the name) |

//Have you heard Brian Eno's rendition of 'The lion sleeps tonight'?// |

Yeah, but I can't quite dig out the 45 at the moment. Are you saying the falsetto parts are speeded up or just that they're high pitched? Or something else? |

Robert Plant quote I read recently: "I can't even remember the last time I had sex" |

I vote for 100% Helium in the bubble. |
|
|
Are you sure Helium is 100% though? |
