Can be used with to any plug-in appliance- eg hot kettle on arrival- BINGO!

Will also be turn off in a similar fashion.

       I think there is a great idea here if you broadened it out a bit. How about a "remote socket" device which would plug into your wall-socket and into which another electrical device would be plugged. The "remote socket" would be like a conventional timer - which switches on the power to the plugged-in device at a specified time - however it would differ because it would be activated by the reciept of an SMS message containing a key word and the word "ON" (and off again if the extra word is "OFF"). You could dot these about your house/business and use them to activate/de-activate devices at will. You could allocate different keywords to each unit. In this way your conventional electric blanket becomes "remote-enabled" and you also come home to a kettle just on the boil, the TV warmed up and ready-to-entertain, the PC booted up ready to check the half-bakery etc. (+)

       Adjusting the heat on an electric blanket could come in handy when you get too hot or cold in winter. The only down side is power outages from those dreaded Ice storms.
