But surely it would just flash up "Lycra" all the time? |
A cadence sensor essentially does this. |
Ha, as soon as I posted this I knew that comment was imminent, MB. |
21, you could configure it to suit your bike. If you don't like the recommendations you could turn it off or ignore it. It might be useful for learning and training. |
I was always told that 1rpm at the pedals was about
optimum, and to change gears until you could just maintain
that pace. |
It better be able to guess in advance when you want to accelerate; otherwise it'll just Schleck your chain. |
1 RPS is kind of the low end, and I suspect that's
what MB was thinking of, a cadence of 60-90 is
considered good, but yes, steady, with the gearing
to get the speed/power needed. |
Ah, yes. Well. I lapsed into Norlandic there by mistake (1
restovarti parse menustia). 1 rps in English. |

(sp. "restøvarti pårse menùstia") |

Doesn't it need to measure torque too? |

//Doesn't it need to measure torque too?// |
Good question, not sure of the answer. But measuring torque is hard on a bike (or at least not immediately obvious to me). |
maybe another sensor such as an inclinometer would provide sufficient information to calculate a reasonable recommendation (though you might need to assume other forces such as wind and rolling resistance remain constant). |
So add an anemometer and tyre pressure & wear sensors. |
There are ways to measure power output on a bike, but they are not cheap (search "power tap"). |

Hippo!!!! You're family was from the Southern Basin of
Norlandia too??? Pichienka vaarti!! Minchki pichienka
pichienki!! Dobrania! (I was never a stickler for the accents;
Professor Krapinska would be so ashamed of me.) |
[MaxwellBuchanan], [hippo] I have urgent news.
"Professor" Krapinska now has advanced dementia, and is
aphasic for all of her many languages, excepting only some
remnants of Norlandic, which, unfortunately, she herself
invented. You are as yet the only victims of her Norlandic
private tuition scam to come forward, hence, the only
people who can communicate with her. |
Her consent is urgently needed for a business transaction
amounting to hundreds of millions (of Seychelles sea
shells, but still, it's a lot). There's big money in it for you
if you'll just contact ... now where did I put that address.
Getting more forgetful every day, darn it. |
I'm very sad to hear that Prof. Krapinska's mind has finally
gone. However, I would like to congratulate him on having
the chutspa to go through with the sex change operation.
Berastranya, Professor, and ludka plotchim. |
Surely you mean her *second* sex change operation? |
Hah! (S)he used to tell all his freshman students that one. I
expect he told you the one about his dealings with the local
Chen'tolayas after he was caught trying to sell a box of
vetrjinkos to his classmates back at Nevroskaja Collective?
Did he show you the scar on his pyr-pruppeski? |
