pretty litter

now, we may not all be black belts in origami (in fact, some of you and we know who you are, may not even know what it is) but with a little practice and a little help, who knows what minor miracles we might perform.

all packaging should come, with easy to read, instructions for creative ways of folding, twisting, tucking, intertwining and pleating all our disposable scrap so that with a flick of the wrist & several swift movements of the fingers – viola, something beautiful, interesting and easy on the eye.

the lines and arrows and concise instructions could come in, perhaps, 3 different colours for different levels of difficulty. red for most proficient, yellow for average ability and green for easy-peasy. just follow the guidelines and away you go.

that sheet of paper that contained your chips may transform into a graceful swan.
that annoying parking ticket could quite easily be
a thoughtful blue heron, peacefully contemplating the sky,
your cigarette pack becomes a rearing black stallion
and that sweet bag is transformed into a leaping bottle-nosed dolphin
- joy personified

a whole new field of job opportunities open up in design and printing as these products are exported world-wide.

In fact we might all get to like this activity so much and be proud of our achievements we might, just might, take them home with us.

       I can remember when turning soda cans into hats was all the rage. A few years later we recycled soda cans for other things. On the other hand, how many soda-can hats do you need?   

       Maybe this should be taught in school.   

       Oh, and you'd turn a bottle into a bottle-nosed dolphin, perhaps in conjunction with a sweet bag.

There is a brand of A4 writing pad that contains origami instructions in the inside cover. Unfortunately, I can't remeber what it is.

       this idea misses the point of litter...ppl litter because they are such lazy asses they don't go to a garbage can and throw things away! someone too lazy to get to a trash bin isn't likely to fold any origami since that requires thought...lazy asses. (in case you couldn't tell, i'm an environmentalist) i do like the idea, i just don't think it would ever work for extended periods of time. + for the thought though

       [myfaceyour] I livein the West End of Glasgow and off the top of my head I can think of the location of at least 9 or 10 of these chewing gum hearts.
The only explanations I've heard as to what their purpose is generally involve neds and vandalism, but many people I know hold them in high regard.
Personally, I think they're better than cold grey paving slabs or tarmac. If you find out what they're all about give me a shout as they've been bugging me for ages.

       Would anyone bother to fold them, though? Those who litter probably wouldn't care about beautifully folded swans, and those who do would put their trash in the right place. Also, even if everyone did follow the instructions, a littered picnic area would look much the same from a distance. Still, I would rather carry around a nice bit of origami than a candy wrapper I can't get rid of.

       Hmm, at first I was with [Dr Curry] thinking the thread would be about sculptable kitty litter, then I wondered whether pretty kitty litter might be some horrid way to fold kitties into origami shapes before throwing them out.
