nowadays they have gps modules for palm and handspring devices, and it seems to me a logical use for such an add-on would be to link it into your datebook alarms so that the further away you are from your meeting, the earlier the alarm rings. baked already? i found a lot of palm gps stuff online, but
nothing that seems to do this...

That's not entirely true; GPS does need signal from at least three birds to get a 2-D fix, but with the latest antennae and software, true line-of-sight is no longer necessary. I've seen demonstrations of GPS operation perfectly well inside steel framed buildings and in a mulit-storey car park, with the signals down in the noise floor and substantial obscuration at all levels. So this isn't actually a WIBNI, the technology exits. |

It doesn't have to be GPS; if the PDA has an embedded cellphone, you can get acceptable ranging and location from that. |

8th: just to be annoying, but not surprisingly, the location system available to 3G phones is also called GPS. So, now we have satellite GPS and 3G GPS. I'm sure that more will pop up as time goes on. |

Needs to work in reverse, too. For my brother-in-law's birthday party, I'm trying to decide how far away I want to be. |

Is this the subtitle for a halfbakery book: //WIBNI, the technology exits//? |

Just read this as Palm Gas Alarm, a much more useful device in this unsteady day and age. |
