mosquito net that migrates towards the poor
Stuff send abroad, like food, sometimes gets hijacked and then goes to the well off. Perhaps mosquito nets get diverted to areas far from swamps where they have higher unit effectiveness. A mosquito net with a repairable hole would be ignored by the affluent and accumulate among those with less money. They take 1 minute to fix it and have a mosquito net that would have otherwise been diverted. | |
Stuff send abroad, like food, sometimes gets hijacked and then goes to the well off. I have heard of relief food making its way to markets, government workers, or those the government favors.
Mosquito nets are most effective near swamps, where some of the least affluent people live. Like other things,
it is possible the mosquito nets get diverted. It is even imaginable that some swamp dwellers might swap a mosquito net for money.
So how about a mosquito net the affluent would not have in their house? One with holes, or perhaps vaguely unfashionable? A mosquito net with a repairable hole would be ignored by the affluent and accumulate among those with less money.
The hole would have a quick repair with tape or thread, or possibly even a couple twigs. Even if they were confused about the hole the unfashionable mosquito nets could be 95% or better effective.
Other charitable products could also be rethought to migrate towards the poor rather than away from them
a sensible person would have to measure the amount of net diversion and balance that against only being 97% effective as used to make sure it saves more lives.

Whoops, that's unintended writings. |

... because that's where the mosquitoes are. |

It is not easy to repurpose a mosquito net. |

The motive most likely being hunger. |

A net without holes is called a "sheet". |

Do Calvin Klein or Gucci sell mosquito nets ? |
|
|
// A mosquito net with a repairable hole would be ignored by the affluent and accumulate among those with less money. // |

We are not convinced by your reasoning. The affluent could no doubt get a less affluent person to reassemble two repairable nets into one good one. |
|
|
// The hole would have a quick repair with tape or thread, or possibly even a couple twigs. // |

Twigs are likely to be freely available. Thread possibly, tape not so much. |

Are you suggesting that mosquitoes have fashion sense ? |

Is a 1 in 20 chance of a mosquito bite a useful reduction in odds ? |

Its true, I went to live in a swamp once and saw nobody
affluent, but plenty of effluent. Crouching over my
mosquito net toilet sieve I added some more . (there be
good beans and stuff in there to be had and reused or sold
on- especially if like me youre a poor coeliac) so I set up
my little shop . Those were in me really poor days - Im
slightly richer now, and use a colander |

Did the use of the colander preceed or follow the improvement in your financial circumstances ? |

If you have a mosquito net with bigger holes it ca be better
than you think..my holes were so big it use to let in
ghekkos which ate the mosquitos. Finally the hole got so
big it let my wife in and the mosquitos all went for her |

Hello [8th] you snuck that one in.. I think the collander
made me rich. Although no good in panning for gold. Beans
, yes - learned that as p.o.w. |

I heard that the expensive, insecticide-laced mosquito-nets charities gave away tended to be used as fishing nets, amongst other things. A quick web search confirmed this - and it turns out pertinax's link is relevant. |

So fooling creatures with brains the size of a mosquito should be child's play. They're already Greenpeace subscribers and Democratic voters, the rest is easy. |
