ok cut me some slack here i am just coming off of a $3000 automatic transmission rebuild. The idea is an automatic transmission that uses magnetically engaged clutch plates between the planetary gears instead of hydraulic. This ends the need for a govener, hydraulic pump, hydraulic logic system and a few other moving parts. The tranny fluid only exists to keep the gears from wearing prematurely. a computer controlls up/downshifts. I know everyone hates computers but they do have less moving parts.

       Look into the modern autostick-type transmissions. These are quite often electronically shifted.

       RE: Windows operation: close all the windows, turn off the car, get out, get back in, start it up again, and everything should be fine :p The electromag clutch would work pretty well; I can't remember who but someone makes a pretty strong EM clutch that uses ferrous powder; energized it's nearly a rigid link. Keep the TC, but I see no reason why this wouldn't work. Should last longer than brake bands, too. UB Bund.
