light show

artist designs patterns of bright lights for display in a gallery that people would expose eyes to

the negative image that you see after looking at a bright light and then closing your eyes can be beautiful--so why not deliberately make light patterns to imprint on someone's retina? my idea is to have a gallery for this purpose with pitch black hallways and rooms covered in black velvet. once people are in these black rooms and their eyes are adjusted to the darkness, patterns of light (moving or still) will be flashed to make an imprint that can be seen after they close their eyes. the artist can include surreal music, nature sounds, etc. to accompany his or her work; patrons could recline on luxurious, deep couches while sipping wine; rooms could be private for dates.

       Actually a rather beautiful idea

And (belated) welcome to the Halfbakery!

OK, this was a good one. I say we call out the Halbakery Rendition Team and bring back [annie_j].

Incidentally, I wonder if similar effects could be produced for other senses? For instance, if you played very, very loud white noise, from which middle C had been filtered out, would you hear a middle C when the noise stopped abruptly?

I voted (+), but I doubt that [annie_j] will notice.

Account began on Nov 28 2000, this idea posted, no annos.

There is some other recent traffic associated with the user name via google search. The Rendition Team has been notified via the Rendition Signal (tm)

A rare and unfound gem. (+)

       The bun'll come out tomorrow.
Bet your bottom anno that tomorrow,
there'll be bun.

Might be a good Aurora Borealis package in a sensory deprivation chamber.

Well, that would certainly explain the hissing at the end of my asigmatic poetry readings.

If it's already very dark, I don't think closing the eyes will make any difference. You'd get the after-images anyway.

Sad story about annie, witnesses said she had her eyes tightly closed as she stepped off the pavement outside the exhibition space - and met her untimely demise. She seemed entranced, mouth wide with wonder. A light went out that day
