Not quite seeing why it would be "far colder than any conventional refridgerator" - that's going to depend on the quality of your pump and the nature of freon, surely? (Btw, you realise that you can't use freon any more, right?) |

Because you want to separate the heat from the fridge. If the fridge body is the coil, what keeps the heat away from the inside? Sure, it's insulated. But fridges are insulated anyway, and they still warm up. Because of the latest government specs on energy usage, if there were better insulation out there, then they would be using it. Having some problems at figuring out how to meet them without cutting down on usable space, they are. Having just interviewed at Fridgedaire, I got to learn all this stuff and see the whole manufacturing process. |

BTW, if you have an old fridge, say older than 10 years or so, I'd recommend buying a new one. The new ones have behavioral learning programming that learns your daily habits of fridge usage so as not to consume nearly so much energy. Substantial portion of your energy bill, it is. |

oh well then.....i'm sure you could find something else....the freezer is supposed to be a meat freezer, I have no problems with our refridgerators either... but this was speciffically labeled "INDUSTRIAL freezer" |

Fun if you want to show how butyl rubber pipe shatters like glass after it's been cooled to -176 C in LN2. Not fun if you're a witless clown who makes an ice lolly by dipping a paper cup of orange juice in a dewar of same, then waiting a minute and licking the resulting smoking block of "ice" ...... serious burns to the tongue, a trip to the ER, several days off work, and a written warning for misconduct (Not me by the way, I was just on the disciplinary panel). |
