The concept is that each chapter would be a short story with it's own characters and would be written by a single author.
My reasoning behind this is that in my experience authors write very well about characters similar to themselves but not about characters with different personalities. This usually
means a lot of similar characters or badly written characters particularly of opposite gender. I also think that if the entire style of the story reflects the character, the reader will get more engrossed.
My initial scenario for the story would be a space station as I like sci-fi but it could just as easily be a cruise ship, park or office.
There would be a few central events and a general plot, but the main focus of the novel would be how the individuals contribute in different ways to the outcome whilst getting on with their daily lives.
As the project continues, authors may choose to have cameo appearances in eachothers stories or describe the same event mentioned in another chapter.
This is an idea I had some time ago and was going to create a website for it. Since then I have discovered a cheap method of publishing and a source of literary talent (that means you). If I get sufficient interest in the idea I will bake it.

:( It seems to be thoroughly baked, there's even a term for it "Shared Universe". |

Still, it obviously works, if anyone's interested I think it's worth doing. In the meantime I might have a read of the Larry Niven inspired Man-Kzin anthologies. |

Whats that sci-fi book, Medea? All the big sci-fi writers got together and wrote a book, each did a short story. It was pretty good. |
