ground fairies
fairy lights from fruit fall via thin air mat and piezoelectric compression. | |
In the orchard when the sun is down and the wind is shaking at the fruit, the ground twinkles with every fall. Fleeting sparks if light flicker here and there, making the night a filled with magical trace of separating fall.
An air bag of plastic, C shaped, that can be taped into a disk with a hole
is placed around the tree. ( 5m diameter , 1 diameter centre hole, 10mm thick ). The disk is blow up and valve sealed. Embedded in the plastic is a peizoelectric material that when deformed supplies a short sharp nano voltage to tiny LEDs.
If the orchard is in a more light prone area, a battery model, will have more powerful LEDs gated by the fall. Daylight sun can be used to charge the batteries.
May even protect the fruit.

Fairies that don't fly? that would be pixies then. |
I thought pixie dust was ground fairies? |
Of course not that would be fairy dust obviously. |
If you want pixie dust you have to grind pixies. |
Yup, same way you get cat pepper and baby oil. |

As to the idea, [-] for lack of ill-considered, reckless and dangerous use of pyrotechnics. |

At least they're not powered by falling bananas, so
not such a bad idea after all. [+] |

What, do you have a problem with swallows
dropping them? |

beautiful. there is nothing quite like visiting a peach orchard
in the late summer, when the branches are heavy with ripe
fruit and the ground is scattered with riper fruits. not only
does the fruit fall, but the fruit may be thrown. |
The LEDs could be on little springs, so would take a bouncy flight as well as light. |

// a problem with swallows dropping them // |

Only in Africa, apparently. |
Q. What do you get when you combine pixie dust and ground fairies? |
A. Unicorns that fart rainbows. |
No that's what happens when you 'feed' your unicorn pixie or
fairy dust, if you can find a leprechaun adding one part per
thousand of leprechaun powder gets you a pot of gold at the
end of it as well. |
