A watch with a GPS receiver and coordinate entry that will trigger an alarm whenever the watch reaches those coords.

Could be used for reminders, eg. "Don't forget the groceries" when driving past the store.

(?) Casio's GPS watch http://www.casio.co...x.cfm?act=10&ID=702
Casio should add this feature. Unfortunately, the watch can only continuously monitor GPS position for 10 hours. [egnor, Mar 02 2000, last modified Oct 04 2004]

It would also be useful to have your mobile able to sound its alarm, or switch itself off when it moves from one cell area to another. i.e. use to wake you up when you train gets close to home.

I like it! Could have alarms based on time AND location: "it's 6:00 -- you should be on the road by now" -- or even better, NOT sound any alarms when you're at the symphony.

Good idea. GPS wouldn't work in tunnels though (think of all those sleepy commuters), so inertial navigation would have to added as a supplement.

This would also be very useful for when you fall asleep on the train home after a night on the piss. Set it to wake you up just before your stop.

Try includinga reletively harmless, yet incredibly painfull shocking device. Maybe a buzzing or vibrating noise will be more marketable.

It's a long time after March 2000, but my iPhone does this - I can tell Siri to remind me to buy X next time I'm near Y. Sometimes it even works.

Same with Google Now/Keep. And both (should) do it with supported smartwatches too.

I remember from several years ago a smartphone app designed for those who sleep on buses, which would wake them up when nearing their destination. Could be the one [Jutta] linked to.

That is cool that a patent would cite the HB.

Or maybe it just seems cool to me. Maybe it happens a lot. Probably it does, with my ideas posted here. And those ladies looking at me and giggling are the ones who filed those patents. Laugh it up, ladies! I put those ideas here for you!

Typing in 'Halfbakery patent citation' into a search engine will show that it happens quite a lot.

<edit> they actually only show up well on Google Patent Search rather than a more general search engine
