We've all been told that it's not polite to stare at people, but sometimes that's all you want to do, stare and stare and stare. Sometimes one really needs to stare at a person that is dressed weird or has done his/her makeup or hair in a peculiar way or has something just a little off about his/her features. It's not because we think they're a freak, we just want to look into the face and eyes of the subject and try to figure out what their lives are all about and why would they leave the house looking like that. What I'd like to invent is a pair of eyeglasses that one could wear that would make it appear as if you were looking in the opposite direction of the object of your glaze. Sunglasses are okay for this kind of activity but they can actually give the impression that one is staring at a subject when one really isn't, (I'm not paranoid, right?). So grab a seat at your nearest mall food court, slip on a pair of gaze-away eyeglasses and enjoy.

Hmmm, trouble is you might get a slap when your glasses inadvertently stare at someone else without you realising.

Perhaps it might work better if your eyes appeared shut? Then you'd be able to see who was staring at you.

It might be simpler to convince several prominent interiour designers that the "maze of mirrors" style is coming back. This way the problem of having a different refractive index for light approaching from different sides of the lens.

Just use a couple of one-way eye patches. What? you've never heard of the one-way eye patch? Yearrr, matee.

oh cool! They already sorta make these glasses. They look like dark sunglasses, but the sides have mirrors on the INSIDE portion of the outer edges of the frame. It lets you look directly behind you without turning your head. So you could have your back turned to them and stare away.

Although it's considered impolite to stare, if you go up to someone and say "is it OK if I stare at you for a while?", most of them will be too polite to say no.

There are paints that are translucent enough for covering glass. Therefore this Idea could have been about a pair of glasses that have wide-open eyes painted on them, for constant staring in whatever direction they are aimed at (while of course behind the lenses the real eyes could be looking elsewhere).
