Create a charitable foundation that employs people specifically to come up with evil plans. The Evil FF would design addictive products, plan campaigns of manipulation, invent weapons of mass destruction, prototype annoying new forms of advertising, concoct fraudulent schemes, and generally plot wrongdoing. The Evil FF would operate a halfbakery-like public seed idea bank, accept donations of money and time, operate openly, build and evaluate prototypes (within the bounds of ethics) and publish their results.

Why? So the world can see what's coming and prepare for it. So the Evil Freedom Foundation can patent the evil ideas and make it harder for other people to implement them. So the people who are excited by Big Evil Things (and who isn't?) can have fun while actually doing good at the same time.

The primary downside, of course, is that once the Evil FF have researched and published nefarious schemes, actual evildoers might pick them up and implement them. At least the world will have some warning. A secondary downside is that the public might panic in response to a great many plausible but unlikely scenarios for horrible wrongdoing and feel compelled to overcompensate with restrictive and expensive security measures.

YES! I can think of innumerable advertising campaigns I would have liked to know of in advance, and thus be able to avoid. Right now I would love to see the Pepsi girl pull an Exorcist (with cola in place of pea soup, of course)

Maybe we need a "Machinations of Evil" section?

When I saw this I thought it was an agency prepared to fight for the freedom of fascists, racists and all kinds of terrorists. It would be rather amusing if the EFF joined in with the ACLU for the more "evil" causes that the ACLU feels it has to support in the US.

My first reaction: NO! But anthropologically (after much thought): YES! It shows the biases & limits of the creators of the ideas. Whether the cultor surrounding the creator supports the creator - that is important eg Adolf Hitler and his socioculture.

I like it I really really like it. The member's of the foundation could vote on which ideas are more sadistic and twisted. The problem is how do you keep members from taking idea's before they are patented and using them for evil.

Or how do you keep the Evil FF from coming up with an exellent evil plan and the holding the world up for ransom. I smell Sit-Com!!!

Interesting SCUM Manifesto. Wrong, but interesting.
thumbwax, Jun 10 2002

So the real reason I *feel* incomplete is simply because I am, genetically? Interesting...

This is basically baked at most intelligence agencies these days.

I was totally furious at PBS tonight for basically spelling out how to create a *dirty* bomb on the news. What on earth were they possibly thinking? (my paraphase of their quote) 'Oh it's easy, you just get some cesium or some radioactive source from a hospital or a university, and build a conventional explosive.'
RayfordSteele, Jun 11 2002

Rayford, I knew how to do it long before PBS did that. It's not hard, when you realize that the 'dirty' part is just scattered radioactive material. I also know how to build two different sorts of nuclear bomb, and did long before the Algore invented the internet.

It's not hard to find the information, even in a normal library. My father said much the same thing, about anthrax back when, and I said the same thing then. Anybody who wanted to know how to do it already could...

oh, i am completely for this one. although, i disagree with the entire organization having to be so public. i personally believe that all world domination/wickedly sinister pracks should be somewhat surreptitious. i'd enjoy if this organization were more of a freemasonry type deal - ultra secretive. of course there would be some sort of bizarre intiation and a "quiz" to test your true evilness.

You are the Diet Dr. Pepper of evil, [ronge]!
quantum_flux, Feb 14 2007

Any idea where someone claims to be evil, or supports evil gets an instant bone from me. Why? because the idea always turns out to be some random attempt at making the character dr.evil seem more comical than he actually is. The evil plans are never that evil. They are comical in their own stupidity.
Antegrity, Feb 14 2007

Just post your evil schemes right here on HB. Disguise them as innocuous inventions if you must. Or, Pinky, we can figure out how to TAKE OVER THE WORLD. Anyone who invents a new kind of plowshare has probably also invented a new kind of sword.

Pretty certain that truly evil folk don't worry about patent law.
RayfordSteele, Jul 02 2007

Hmm. I don't think patent laws would matter much. Isn't there a patent on a certain rocket backpack that some guy is using without a patent... and it's "OK" because he's not selling the rocket pack.

So a patent on say... a "Dirty bomb" might stop arms dealers from creating and selling them, but giving them away, or making them, and using them yourself is probably legal under patent laws.

Sounds a lot like the popular concept of "They" to me.
Wrongfellow, Jun 24 2009

The organization would provide a useful focus for anyone suffering from paranoia. One would know exactly where to look in order to confirm one's suspicions.

There would, of course, soon be a 'blacker market' for non-sanctioned evil and the whole culture would re-balance so that the EFF appeared moderate relative to the blacker market.

The more I think about this, the more familiar the whole scenario appears. The UK used to have left wing, centre and right wing political parties. Now we have centre right, right and extreme right wing parties.

Yep, this is well and truly baked.
