racing game where the player controls the track rather than the vehicle

with the vehicle moving forward and the player pressing the button which would normally move the vehicle left making a left bend in the track,slightly behind the vehicle, and in this way going over the track and leaving a bendy track behind. [and perhaps others might overtake or something, and have the one/s in the lead affect track for the ones behind them]

       Shouldn't that be the other way around? I would think that the car(s) to the rear should be able to slow the one(s) in front. Otherwise, once you get in front you'll tend to stay there.
